The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop music that not only drew attention to Latin Music, but also reggaeton. The Despacito album reached its peak popularity in 2017, 19 tracks primarily made in Spanish made it to the top 100. This number rose to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber's remix in two languages Despacito came out in the year 2017. Soon after, popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018) as well as Madonna worked with Maluma to create Medellin. In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton stars were complaining about their genre's shift towards the mainstream.
