Alves were born Rodrigo Alves on 30 July 1983 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to an Brazilian mother and Alves's British father. Her father, Roserval Alves, hailed from a Portuguese family who arrived in Brazil in the late 1940s. The family initially was in the farming trade but expanded their business involvement to include shopping centres and real estate. Her grandfather purchased Barbie dolls for her when she was a youngster. Alves was born a male but she believes she could be female until the age of "three or four years old, five, to six". Also, she was a doll, and cross-dressed and was a fan of having fun with dolls. Alves is of the opinion that it is not appropriate to identify people by their gender. The shy girl was as a child and was also bullied. Alves had hormone issues when she was a teenager. She had too much estrogen, which caused her breast tissue and other body parts to increase. Bullies also targeted her physical characteristics. [9][7] Her family has a string of grocery stores located in Brazil which has helped make them wealthy, but as of 2018, Alves has not made any money from the grocery stores.
