Famous for his dramatic and comedic roles, he's one of the most well-known and recognizable film stars worldwide, and is regarded as an American famous cultural icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born in Concord, California, to Janet Marylyn a hospital worker, and Amos Mefford Hanks, an chef who traveled the world. His mother's family, originally known as "Fraga", was entirely Portuguese and his father was of predominantly English heritage. Tom was born into what he described as a "fractured" family. He did not have any acting experience in college. This was what helped him start his career. He was an auditioner in the downtown area of Cleveland for a community theatre play. After that it was announced that he would be invited to Cleveland by the director. This was the point where his acting career began.
